What we should do to stop exploiting corrupt Cambodian orphanages

I had the privilege of attending TedxSydney 2016 at the Sydney Opera House this year. Of the 15 talks that I heard in one day, the one that was most memorable was one from Tara Winkler- the Manager Director of Cambodia Children’s Trust (CCT). She speaks out against the spread of orphanages in developing countries, caused by the good intentions of foreign donors like myself, and of harm that comes to children when they are separated from their families and left to grow up in institutions like those so-called ‘orphanages’.

Un Caffe, Florence Italy

After 2 months of au pairing in Florence, my favourite cafe was an off-the-beaten-path cafe that I will forever be fond of. Un Caffe is located near the Accademia GalleryMuseum of San Marco and Santissima Annunziata, but because its entrance resembles a literal hole-in-the-wall, it can be easily missed. It also looks like an ordinary apartment with the addition of wooden chairs and tables outside because its neighbours are all residents. Not to mention the ivy sprawling across the wall and the traditional out-swing casement windows that are so quintessentially a trademark of Italian housing…
